       8th Annual “Supporting Creative Aging Through the Arts” Exhibits

Matters of the HeART  is generously funded by Helen Andrus Benedict Foundation

Matters of the HeART consists of three consecutive exhibitions of original art created by Westchester County residents over the age of 55. It includes three “meet-the-artists” opening receptions that bring the community together to celebrate the creativity of Westchester’s older adults.

The first 130 submissions will be accepted in an open-entry format at Greenburgh Town Hall. Due to space limitations, Andrus-On-Hudson and Fordham University exhibits will be JURIED

Sites and Dates

  1. Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Avenue,  Greenburgh, NY,  March 9 – May 4, 2012; Opening reception:  Sunday, March 18, 2012     2–4 pm  General Public;  Disabled admitted 1 pm
  2. Andrus-on-Hudson, 185 Old Broadway,  Hastings-on-Hudson, NY,  May 9 – May 29, 2012; Opening Reception: Tuesday, May 15, 2012    3–5 pm
  3. Fordham University, 400 Westchester Avenue, West Harrison, NY,  June 2 – June 15, 2012; Opening Reception: Thursday, June 7, 2012     3-5 pm

Exhibition Guidelines

   There is no entry fee.    

   Entrants must be over 55 years of age and a resident of Westchester County

   ONE submission per person, eligible for inclusion for Site 1; Juried & Selected for sites 2 and 3

    Accepted Media:  Painting (oil, watercolor or acrylic) Pastel Drawing   Photography

        Collage    Fiber Art    Prints    Mixed Media    Sculpture

  All artwork must be original and be created no earlier than 2007    (No mobiles or nude subject matter.)

   Artwork must be priced for sale, or marked NFS (not for sale) on both entry forms

    All two-dimensional works must be framed, matted, and securely wired for hanging.  Overall frame size should not exceed 24” x 30” (twenty-four inches by thirty inches).

   Sculptures should not exceed 2 feet tall X 3 feet wide X 3 feet deep, with a maximum weight of 20 lbs.  Works with dangerous protrusions will not be accepted.

   Affix one entry form to back of artwork; hand one in with submission.

    No submissions will be accepted after March 7, 2012.  Artists are responsible for drop-off and pick-up at designated times and locations.

♥   The first 130 submissions will be accepted in an open-entry at Greenburgh Town Hall (Site 1), based on artist’s compliance with the entry guidelines, originality, aesthetics, & the compelling nature of the work.

   Due to space limitations, Andrus-On-Hudson (Site 2 - maximum of 60 pieces) and Fordham University (Site 3 – maximum of 35 pieces) entries will be selected and juried. Committee’s decisions are final.

Greenburgh Town Hall Exhibit - Site #1- Open Entry

Drop-off Dates: Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Avenue, Greenburgh, NY

Tuesday, March 6th, 11am-1 pm and Wednesday, March 7th, 2-4 pm

 

Meet your fellow artists and enjoy coffee and muffins after you register.

 

[Directions: Hillside Avenue is just off Route 119 Tarrytown Road, east of the Big K-mart Shopping Center, and west of the County Center. Traveling west on 287/Cross Westchester Expressway, get of at exit # 5, turn right, go to the next light and turn right into Town Hall parking lot. Bring your art to the lobby.]

 CONFIRMATION OF ACCEPTANCE  for ANDRUS & FORHDAM SHOWS 

IF your work is selected for the Andrus and Fordham shows you will be informed by phone or email no later than Wednesday, March 28th

If you are not contacted on March 28th, pick up your work at Greenburgh Town Hall on Monday, May 7th, between 11 AM – 1 PM.

 

Selected works will be dismounted from the Town Hall exhibit by the Planning Committee and taken directly to Andrus-on-Hudson and Fordham University.  Selected artists need not be present.

Pick-up date at the end of exhibition is Friday, June 15th, from 11 am -1 pm

at Fordham University, 400 Westchester Ave., W. Harrison, NY.

OPTIONAL, but requested - An Artist’s Statement will hang beside your art.  During the exhibits, hundreds of people will look at your work and ponder its meaning. Please answer the following question in a maximum of 6 sentences: “What inspired you to create this art work?”

Artist’s statement MUST BE TYPED or PRINTED.  IT IS ESSENTIAL TO INCLUDE: Your Name,
